Turn HEIC photos into JPG files that fit everyday workflows
HEIC is an efficient image format commonly used for photos on modern Apple devices, but there are still situations where a JPG is easier to open, upload, edit or share. Converting HEIC to JPG creates a familiar image file while letting you control how the new JPG is produced.
The converter above accepts both HEIC and HEIF images, supports single-photo and batch conversion, and gives you control over JPG quality and optional image resizing before download.
How to convert HEIC to JPG online
The converter is designed so you can process a single iPhone photo just as easily as a larger batch of HEIC or HEIF images.
Choose your HEIC or HEIF images
Drop a photo into the converter or choose files from your device. You can select one image or add several photos for a batch HEIC to JPG conversion.
Select a photo and inspect it
Photos appear in the conversion queue. Choose an image to open its preview and inspect useful details such as its dimensions and original file size.
Choose the JPG quality you need
Use the quality slider to balance image detail and output size. Higher settings generally preserve more visual detail but can produce a larger JPG.
Resize the photo when smaller dimensions make sense
Open the resize options if you want the converted JPG to fit within a maximum width or height. Leave resizing disabled when you want to keep the original dimensions.
Create the JPG files
Click Convert to JPG. The workspace processes the photos and displays progress as each HEIC image is converted.
Compare the result and download
Inspect the HEIC and JPG using the before-and-after comparison, then download the selected JPG or save all successfully converted images together.
This HEIC converter is part of Xplore File Manager, where image and file tools are built around focused workflows rather than forcing every file type into the same generic converter.
Why convert an HEIC or HEIF image to JPG?
HEIC can store photographs efficiently, so there is no reason to convert every HEIC image automatically. JPG becomes useful when the destination works more comfortably with a conventional JPEG image.
Easier compatibility
JPG has been used for digital photographs for decades and fits into a very broad range of image viewers, editors, websites and upload workflows.
Website uploads
Convert HEIC photos when a website, CMS, marketplace or form accepts JPG but does not work with your HEIC source.
Sharing photos
A JPG copy can be useful when you are sending a photo to someone whose software does not handle HEIC reliably.
Existing JPG workflows
Teams that already organize, publish or process JPG images can create compatible copies without changing their broader workflow.
What JPG quality should you choose?
JPG uses lossy compression, which means its quality setting matters. Increasing JPG quality generally keeps more image detail but also tends to increase the resulting file size.
There is no universal setting that is best for every HEIC photo. Detailed photographs, text inside images and images intended for closer viewing may benefit from a higher setting, while smaller web images may not need the maximum value.
Start with the converter's default setting, inspect the actual JPG in the comparison view, and adjust only when the result needs more detail or a smaller file.
Compare HEIC and JPG before keeping the result
File size is useful, but the image itself matters more. The converter includes a visual HEIC-versus-JPG comparison so you can inspect the result instead of choosing settings blindly.
Convert the format without keeping oversized dimensions
Sometimes format compatibility is only half the job. A large HEIC photo straight from a phone may have more pixels than you need for a website, profile image, listing or document.
Enable Resize while converting to set maximum width and height values for the JPG. The tool can fit the converted photo within those limits while preserving the image proportions.
The Never enlarge smaller photos option is useful when your maximum dimensions are intended as a limit rather than a request to upscale every image.
Judge the result with real file information
After conversion, the workspace gives you useful information about the current image rather than reducing the result to a simple “conversion complete” message.
See the size of the source photo before conversion.
Check how large the newly generated JPG actually is.
Confirm the pixel dimensions of the selected image.
Compare source and output instead of assuming JPG will be smaller.
Converting HEIC to JPG does not guarantee a smaller image
HEIC is designed for efficient image storage. Depending on the source photo, JPG quality and selected dimensions, a converted JPG may be smaller or larger than its HEIC source. Use the real size information in the converter when output size matters.
Convert a group of HEIC photos with one set of settings
If you have a folder of iPhone HEIC photos, converting every image individually quickly becomes repetitive. Add multiple HEIC or HEIF files to the photo queue and use the same JPG settings across the batch.
You can still select individual photos to inspect them. Once conversion is complete, download one selected result or use Download All to collect multiple JPG outputs into a ZIP archive.
HEIC vs JPG: which format should you keep?
Converting does not mean the original format is bad. HEIC and JPG solve different workflow problems, and it can make sense to keep both.
| Feature | HEIC / HEIF | JPG / JPEG |
|---|---|---|
| Typical use | Efficient modern photo storage | General photo compatibility |
| Compression | Designed for efficient image storage | Lossy JPEG compression |
| Workflow compatibility | Depends more on software support | Very common in image workflows |
| Transparency | HEIF containers can support richer image capabilities | JPG does not support an alpha transparency channel |
| File extension | .heic / .heif | .jpg / .jpeg |
| Best reason to convert | Keep when HEIC already works for you | Choose when JPG fits the destination better |
When an HEIC to JPG converter is especially useful
iPhone photo uploads
Create a JPG copy when a form, website or service does not accept the HEIC photo from your phone.
IMG_4821.HEIC → IMG_4821.jpgWebsite images
Convert and optionally resize large HEIC photos before adding them to an existing JPG-based publishing workflow.
Convert + resizePhoto sharing
Make a familiar JPG copy when you are not sure whether the recipient's software supports HEIC.
HEIC → compatible copyBatch photo conversion
Process several HEIC or HEIF images together instead of repeating the same conversion one photo at a time.
Multiple HEIC → multiple JPGChanging .heic to .jpg is not enough
A file extension is only part of the filename. Renaming photo.heic to photo.jpg does not rewrite the image into the JPEG format.
A real HEIC to JPG conversion decodes the source image and creates new JPEG image data for the JPG output.
Your photos are decoded and converted in your browser
The HEIC conversion workflow is designed to decode the selected photos and create the JPG output inside the browser. Your original HEIC or HEIF images remain separate and unchanged while the new JPG files are created.
Questions about converting HEIC and HEIF to JPG
How do I convert HEIC to JPG online?
Add your HEIC image to the converter, choose the JPG quality and optional resize settings, start the conversion, inspect the result and download the new JPG.
Can I convert HEIF files to JPG too?
Yes. The converter accepts both HEIC and HEIF files as supported source image formats.
Can I convert multiple HEIC photos at once?
Yes. Add multiple HEIC or HEIF photos to the queue and the converter can process them as a batch using the current JPG settings.
Does HEIC to JPG conversion reduce quality?
JPG uses lossy compression, so creating a JPG can discard some image information. The visible difference depends on the source photo and the JPG quality setting you choose.
Is a JPG always smaller than the original HEIC?
No. File size depends on the image, its dimensions and JPG quality. HEIC is already designed for efficient photo storage, so the JPG output can sometimes be larger.
Can I resize HEIC while converting it to JPG?
Yes. Enable the resize option and set maximum width or height values. You can also keep the option that prevents smaller photos from being enlarged.
Can I compare HEIC and JPG before downloading?
Yes. After a JPG has been generated, the converter provides a before-and-after image comparison so you can visually inspect the result.
Does converting HEIC to JPG increase image resolution?
No. Changing the image format does not create new detail. Unless you deliberately change the dimensions, conversion is about the file format rather than increasing true image resolution.
Can I just rename HEIC to JPG?
No. Changing the extension does not convert the underlying image data. The HEIC image has to be decoded and encoded into JPEG.
What happens when I download several converted photos?
When multiple converted JPG files are ready, the Download All action packages them into a ZIP archive so the batch can be saved together.
Working with another modern image format?
Use the destination format that matches the next step in your image workflow.
